Accounts of a group of rarely-mentioned 'factious' individuals known as the Goose Creek Men were part of guest speaker Dr. Mike Heitzler's historical revelations during his return visit with the Summerville Preservation Society on Jan. 26 at the Old Town Hall.During the second half of the 1600s, recounted Heitzler — the one-time mayor of Goose Creek — a cadre of restless males migrated from Barbados to North Carolina in 1665 and later settled in Goose Creek circa 1670 partially due to the area's fresh water, which wasn't available in nearby Charleston.
